Jonathan Yeo's portraits sometimes use bold and expressive brushstrokes, while at other times they are more fluid and painterly, always exploring the potential of the medium while remaining true to their subject. The clothes and background are often stripped away so that the identity of an individual can emerge unhindered from the anonymous surface. Despite being almost entirely self-taught, Yeo demonstrates a fluent ability founded on acute draftsmanship, and the result is work that conjures an eerily human presence with the lightest of painterly touches.
